Tallies show three sitting Mayo TDs to be reelected

Counting is expected to go late into the night

The final tally for the Mayo constituency suggests that the three incumbent TDs will be reelected with a battle between four candidates for the remaining two seats.

No candidate is expected to be elected after the first count in the five-seater constituency with candidates expected to be well short of the quota, which is estimated to be approximately 12,500.

Sinn Féin TD Rose Conway-Walsh is expected to top the poll with tallies giving her a 14 percent share of the vote with 10,111 votes. She will be closely followed by Fine Gael TD Alan Dillon who is on 13 percent with 9,431 while Ballina-based TD Dara Calleary is expected to come in third place with 12 percent and 8,500 votes.

There is expected to be a major battle for the remaining two seats with Fine Gael duo of Keira Keogh and Mark Duffy and Fianna Fáíl's Lisa Chambers together on 8 percent with Independent candidate Patsy O'Brien on 7 percent.

Ballina-based Mark Duffy who is expected to poll around 5,913 votes currently has a slight advantage over Keira Keogh who is expected to take around 5,774 while Lisa Chambers is to get close to 5,496.

The performance of south Mayo-based Independent Patsy O'Brien is expected to put him in the mix for the fifth seat with his first preference vote expected to be around 5,212.

There were also strong performances from Aontú's Paul Lawless who is expected to poll around 6 percent while Sinn Féin's second candidate Gerry Murray is expected to be on 5 percent as will Fine Gael's Martina Jennings and Castlebar-based Independent Stephen Kerr.

Independent Ireland candidate Chris Maxwell is expected to poll 3 percent of the vote while People Before Profit's Joe Daly is to take 2 percent and Green Party's 'Boxty' O Conaill to come in at 1 percent.

Judging on previous years, the official results of the first count is not due to take place before 6pm with counting in the TF Royal Theatre in Castlebar expected to continue late into the night.
