Figures provided at 7pm show many low turnouts but late surge expected before voting in General Election 2024 finishes at 10pm

Turnout still below 50 percent in many Mayo polling stations

Polling stations will close in just under two hours

With just under two hours to go before voting concludes in General Election 2024 in the Mayo constituency, the percentage turnout in polling stations is increasing steadily, but surprisingly was still below 50 percent when the latest figures were provided at 7pm.

The Election Office of Returning Officer Ann Marie Courell provided percentage turnout for some 38 of Mayo total of 231 boxes at 7pm.

The highest percentage of those sample boxes was recorded at Scoil Phadraig in Westport from the Urban Boxes at 55.6 percent. The highest turnout in the Rural Boxes provided was at the box in Errew which was at 56.6 percent at 7pm. The last two hours are generally the busiest at polling stations for a General Election so most boxes are expected to get to at least a turnout of 65 percent by 10pm when the polling station close.
