Mayo's polling stations are located in six different electoral areas and will be open from 7am to 10pm today

Voting in General Election 2024 begins in Mayo's 230 polling stations

Voting begun across the Mayo constituency at 7am this morning.

Voting has begun in the Mayo constituency in the 2024 General Election. The doors opened at polling stations right across the county at 7am and they will remain open until 10pm tonight.

The polling stations are located in Local Electoral Areas (LEAs) in Ballina, Swinford, Castlebar, Claremorris, Belmullet and Westport. The largest number of boxes are located in the Castlebar LEA with 47; the next largest is the Claremorris LEA with 45, followed by the Ballina LEA with 40.

Belmullet is next with 37 in its LEA, while the last two LEAs in Swinford and Westport are home to 30 boxes. One box listed in the Claremorris LEA, box 309, (Scoil Iosa NS Number 5) has been assigned to the Swinford Electoral Area, while only one box in the whole county is split, Box Number 422, Keenagh NS, which is split between the Ballina and Belmullet LEAs.

There are 16 candidates on the Mayo ballot paper and they will appear in alphabetical order as follows:

Jennings, Martina (Fine Gael)

Keogh, Keira (Fine Gael)

Kerr, Stephen (Independent)

Lawless, Paul (Aontú)

Loftus, Gerry (Independent)

Maxwell, Chris (Independent Ireland)

Murray, Gerry (Sinn Féin)

O'Brien, Patsy (Independent)

The Mayo News will bring you updates on voter turnout throughout today and our reporters will be reporting live from the Count Centre at the TF Royal Theatre in Castlebar from 9am tomorrow morning. A live blog reporting all the day's event will also begin tomorrow morning at 9am.
