Mayo GAA Minor manager Diarmuid Byrne described some decisions by match referee Eamonn Dolan as 'mind-boggling' in the wake of their Connacht Championship clash with Sligo.

The Green and Red now see their aspirations of securing U-17 glory teetering on the brink following the narrow loss in Kilcoyne Park, Tubbercurry, and will need a win against Galway to keep their season alive.

Speaking after the game, the Castlebar man moved to question some of the officiating on the day.

"A couple of things didn't come off between hitting posts and whatever else, but I was really disappointed there towards the end with some of the decisions that were given," he stated. "It was just mind-boggling.

"The conditions are what they are and it is really difficult, but all you're looking for in these circumstances is a certain amount of consistency.

"It's easy to point the finger, but you're just looking for a certain level of consistency.

The decision to caution the visitors on a number of occasions for taking too many steps in possession drew particular ire from the Castlebar Mitchels clubman.

"We got caught for over-carrying when the lads took literally two or three steps. It's just hard to wrap your head around that in a really, really tight game and that happened on a couple of different occasions.

"It just felt difficult to understand."

Mayo will aim for a big result against Galway in MacHale Park against the Tribesmen at 7pm on Friday.
