Coming into the game, many expected a close battle. Muredach’s overcame the Castlebar boys earlier on in the season when they claimed the Flanagan Cup, but Friday evening was a completely different story. Right from the off, Gerald’s looked to be on a mission. The West Mayo boys raced into an early lead and although Muredach’s levelled the tie in the second half, Gerald’s finished strong to secure a memorable evening.

The Ballina based students kicked 3-4 from play on the night while Gerald’s recorded 0-16 from open play including excellent two pointers from Evan Walsh, Conor Hoban and Joe Forry. Corner back Paul Hurst took a spot kick in the second half and his finish was outstanding, just like the Gerald’s defensive unit. They were brave, tenacious and mean towards their Muredach’s opponents who simply underperformed on the evening.
