1. The crowd

THIS was always going to attract a large crowd as the two proud Mayo schools locked horns for the very first time in a Connacht A final. It was a special year for Muredach's as they reached their first final since 1966 and it was clear they had an enthusiastic following from all corners of North Mayo, West Sligo and beyond.

For Gerald’s, they brought noise, energy and pure passion as a large group of their students cheered them on from the far corner of the stand in Bekan. The big occasion brought a crowd of over two thousand people while the game was broadcast to a larger audience on livestream while also being covered live on Midwest Radio. On an evening where the rain stayed away, the Bekan buzz was a joy to be in.

It was also worth noting the amount of clubs involved as players from 14 clubs battled on the Bekan pitch. On the St Gerald's team, they had players representing Castlebar Mitchels, Breaffy, Parke, Ballintubber, Islandeady, Burrishoole and Tourmakeady.

St Muredach's also had a range of clubs involved with players from Ardnaree, Ballina Stephenites, Bonniconlon, Ballycastle, Knockmore , Northern Gaels and Castleconnor.
