THE Sigerson Cup will reside in Limerick for the next 12 months after the footballers of UL won their first title in thrilling fashion in Croke Park tonight.

The winners, powered by more than a dozen Mayo players in the squad were victorious on a 0-17 to 1-11 scoreline at the end of a hugely entertaining decider.

Moy Davitts attacker Cian McHale was top-scorer for the winners with five points to his name, while Castlebar's Sean Morahan, Ballina's Frank Irwin and Conal Dawson from Westport also raised white flags. Kilmaine's Hugh O'Loughlin and Jack Melvin from Davitts were also on the pitch when the Shannon-siders clinched the historic victory and there were scenes of wild celebration when the final whistle sounded,

UL had gone extremely close to Sigerson glory before, losing deciders in 2022 and 2023, but the losing run ended tonight in glorious fashion.

A full report and reaction will follow.
