The situation surrounding the Mayo GAA Minor Hurling Club Championship final between Westport and Tooreen will be raised in
Mayo GAA will be the subject of some discussion at tomorrow's meeting (Tuesday, December 9) of the GAA's National Hurling Development committee.
It follows a frustrating weekend for Mayo hurling clubs when both Westport and Tooreen were told that Saturday's county minor final couldn't take place in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park because it was closed for remedial work on the pitch.
However, the stadium was reopened to host the U-21 football final between The Neale and Lahardane MacHales, while the hurling final took place at the Connacht Centre of Excellence in Bekan.
That decision was met with incredulity in hurling circles and The Mayo News understands that William Maher the GAA's National Head of Hurling will bring up the matter at tonight's meeting in Croke Park.
On Saturday, in a presentation speech after the U-21C football final in MacHale Park vice-chairman of Mayo GAA, Michael Diskin, said a huge amount of matches had been played in the venue and the pitch needed urgent remedial work.
This all comes at a time when hurling in Mayo faces somewhat of an uncertain future after three of the county's leading officials stepped away.
Chairman, Seán Ó Raghallaigh, secretary, Trevor Kelly, and PRO, Ann McGahon informed Mayo GAA that they will not be seeking another term in their positions.
