Mayo GAA legend helps guide club to Meath Championship glory

Kilbride edged Castletown in thrilling scenes to punch their ticket to Senior football, with a familiar Mayo face on the sideline
Mayo GAA legend Conor Mortimer had a particular part to play in faraway lands last weekend, as Kilbride struck to secure Meath Intermediate Championship glory last weekend.

The former senior champions had been in the doldrums for many seasons, but began the first phase of their ascent to the big time with a Junior title in 2023.
Now, two years on, they won their second county title in three campaigns under the management of former Royal Anthony Moyles.
There were plenty of interesting names listed in the management team, but one name in particular would stand out for those in this neck of the woods.
Mortimer came on board to add a fresh perspective to the panel, as manager Moyles revealed on Off the Ball yesterday (Wednesday, October 15).
"I met him (Conor) over in the Glenroyal in Maynooth, where he's the manager, and we had some great chats about my outlook on football, what we had, and what I thought we suited.
"I reached out to him. I'd obviously played against him. Mick Fogarty, the chairman of the club, was friends with Padraic Joyce. Padraic knew John Divilly well, and John knew Conor. There's your circle of friends!"
