This Saturday, one Mayo man is about to play in the AFL Grand Final. Oisin Mullin and his Geelong side are in the decider where they will come up against one of the top sides, in the Brisbane Lions. Tyrone’s Conor Mc Kenna is on the books at Brisbane but isn’t expected to feature this weekend.
The Kilmaine native isn’t the only player from the Emerald isle that is due to feature as his teammate Mark O’Connor from Kerry is also expected to feature for Geelong who last tasted success in 2022 when one of the great Irish players ‘Down Under’ Zach Tuohy played.
Mullin and O’Connor both featured in last Friday’s preliminary win over Hawthorn as the ‘Cats’ impressed. The former Mayo star kicked his first goal in recent weeks as Mullin has adapted well to the extremely tough and speedy Aussie game.
The Grand Final will get underway Saturday September 27 with the game kicking off at 5.30am (Irish time). A large crowd is expected at the Melbourne Cricket Ground which has a capacity of 100,000. Geelong are the favourites to win the big game and it could be history in the making. The clash between Mullin’s Geelong and the Brisbane Lions will be available to watch on TNT Sports One with coverage getting underway at 4.15am.
