Mayo GAA have today announced a fixture change to one Mayo Senior Club Championship quarter-final.
When the next stage of fixtures were confirmed on Monday morning, it was announced that Knockmore would host Ballintubber at 12 midday on Sunday, September 21.
Today, Mayo GAA have confirmed that the meeting of two of Mayo’s Championship contenders has been changed to 12.30pm. The time change came about because of a fixture clash in Knockmore's home ground, St Joseph's Park.
Knockmore Ladies were scheduled to play their senior championship semi-final on home soil at 11am and had the pitch booked for some time. When Mayo GAA scheduled the men's quarter-final for 12pm, it was obvious that something had to give. Conversations were had between Mayo LGFA, Mayo GAA and Knockmore and a compromise was reached where the LGFA semi-final was moved to 10.30am and the men's quarter-final to 12.30pm. This will allow Knockmore supporters enjoy both games on home soil, back to back.
However, as a result of this change, many neutral supporters have been faced with a possible challenge. Originally, the men's game in St Joseph’s Park was due to be played at noon, and the meeting of Crossmolina and Belmullet was due to start at 2pm in St Tiernan's Park.
Now, it is next to impossible to attend both games in full, leaving many neutral match-goers frustrated.
