Hollymount Carramore lodge appeal after Mayo championship match is mired in two-point controversy

BREAKING - Mayo GAA club lodges appeal against championship result

The Mayo News understands that Hollymount Carramore GAA Club have this evening lodged an appeal with Mayo County Board after Friday night's intermediate championship match with Kilmaine was overshadowed by controversy over the awarding a two-point score to Kilmaine late in the first half.

The match ended in a draw which sent Kilmaine into the last eight and knocked out Hollymount Carramore. Since then video footage circulating seems to suggest that the score kicked by Kevin Mullin was hit from inside the two-point arc.

Kilmaine have been drawn to play Kilmeena in the intermediate championship quarter-final on the weekend of September 20/21, but that may be in doubt now.

The Mayo News understands that Hollymount Carramore received a copy of the referee's match report on Sunday evening and that triggered their ability to object to the result of Friday night's game.

It's expected that the appeal will be heard shortly by Mayo GAA and further updates will then be available.
