Mayo and Tooreen hurler Bobby Douglas will represent both the County and the province this weekend as he is set to participate in the All Ireland Poc Fada Final.
The Mayo County goalkeeper will attempt to claim glory when he goes up against competitors at the National Final in Anaverna Mountain, County Louth. Amongst Douglas are Cathal Dillon (Tipperary), Pearce Smyth (Down), Noel Fallon (Roscommon), Sean Og McLaren (Antrim), Cillian Kiely (Offaly), Darren Geoghegan (Louth), Pat Burke (Westmeath), Colin Ryan (Limerick). Also in the competition is former Tipperary legend, Brendan Cummins and last year’s Champion, Fionan MacKessy from Kerry who now plays inter-county hurling for Kilkenny.
Poc Fada is Irish for "long puck". An All-Ireland Poc Fada Championship is held annually testing the skills of many of the top Hurling and Camogie players. Competitors must puck a sliotar with a hurley over a 5km course broken into 4 stages across the Cooley Mountains playing to the top of Carn an Mhadaidh, and after a short break continue back down to the finish line.
The Final will take place this Bank Holiday Monday in County Louth.
