A Mayo sporting legend is to be honoured in his home town.
Peter McGee was one of GAA Handball's all time greats, winning a total of 17 Senior All-Ireland titles.
His native town Newport have announced, that they will celebrate the legacy of the legendary and true sporting icon Peter McGee at the unveiling of a memorial bench on Sunday, July 20, at 11:30am in Sandymount, Newport.
"This special tribute honours Peter’s remarkable achievements and lasting impact. Following the ceremony, enjoy an exciting exhibition in the Newport Handball Club Court featuring local All-Ireland Féile winners.
Light refreshments will be served afterwards in The Grainne Uaile. A proud day for Newport handball and our community—everyone is welcome to attend this memorable event."
Peter McGee was one of GAA Handball's all time greats, winning a total of 17 Senior All-Ireland titles, in particular specialising in the Hardball code. Amazingly his success ranged over 18 years, from his maiden title in 1965 through to his last in 1983.
