Mike Solan
In terms of outside contenders, Mike Solan is far from the worst shout when it comes to taking the main job.
Solan is highly-regarded in Mayo GAA circles, guiding the county to All-Ireland Under-21 glory in 2016 as well as contesting the 2018 Under-20 final during his five-year stint as manager.
The Ballaghaderreen native joined fellow clubman Andy Moran when he headed to Leitrim, serving as assistant manager in 2022 and 2023.
A spell at the helm of Sligo club Tourlestrane followed in 2024. During that season, the club finished fourth in the group stages of the club championship, before winning their relegation playoff semi-final against Calry Saint Joseph’s.
The last two seasons saw Solan in the dugout for the Longford senior side. His time with the Midlanders saw him steady the ship, making gradual improvements and fostering new talent within the county.
Time will tell if the Mayo native is interested in returning West for a shot at managing his home county, having been in the mix the last time there was a vacancy.
