Former Dublin great Brian Fenton signs for club with strong Mayo links

SEVEN-time All-Ireland winner Brian Fenton will spend his summer playing football in Chicago. The Raheny clubman has signed for John McBride's GAA Club in The Windy City and is expected to line out this weekend in a much-anticipated clash with Wolf Tones in Gaelic Park. McBride's has strong connections with Mayo with Ger Doherty from Kilmaine and Alan Coyle from Kiltane well-known clubmen while the club, which is the oldest in Chicago, also has strong links with Tourmakeady, Balla and other Mayo clubs.

It's expected that Fenton's presence will draw big crowds to Gaelic Park whenever McBride's take to the field. The six-time All-Star only retired from inter-county fare after last season's exploits and is renowned as one of the finest midfielders ever to play the game. He won seven senior All-Irelands in the blue of Dublin, ten Leinster titles and four National League medals.

McBride's has long been a home from home for footballers looking to spend a summer in Chicago. Paul Mannion, Niall Scully and Rory O'Carroll are just some of the Dublin stars who have lined out with the club, while Mayo has always had a strong presence on the pitch. Liam McHale and TJ Kilgallon are just some of the inter-county stars who wore the McBride's jersey and in more recent times Ryan O'Donoghue, Jack Carney, Enda Hession, Eoghan McLaughlin, current AFL star Oisín Mullin, Matthew Ruane and Paul Towey all represented the club.
