It has been revealed that five members of the Mayo GAA inter-county team have been evicted from their living quarters in Dublin following a report to the authorities.
The revelations from Jarlath Burns, President of the GAA, detailed the situation where five members of the Mayo men’s side were ‘put out of’ a non-residential area of the city.
Burns heard of this issue following an email from an unnamed individual.
“I receive an email saying, ‘Are you aware that there's five members of the male senior football panel living in Dublin in an area where it is not made up of residential units? I am reporting those five players to Dublin City Council.’ “
“Lo and behold, they were reported, and pulled out of it.
Five players from your clubs. You have to ask yourself, what is the mentality of somebody who would do that? Is that person for Mayo GAA? Or what is their agenda?
“Why would you be so vicious as to want to do that? Five of your county men who are living in Dublin and the county just wants to ensure they're living in good, comfortable quarters.”
The statements from the GAA President garnered plenty of attention and reaction from the Mayo Club delegates.
John Farragher, the delegate from Garrymore, was joined by the Chairman of the club, Pat Hession.
Farragher states that Pat’s nephew, Enda Hession, was one of those removed from the living quarters.
“It was terrible what happened to those lads. It's uncalled for. They’re young lads starting out in life.
"Enda is an ambassador for our club, He's always willing to help and promote football and underage within the club.”
The aforementioned email is one of a torrent of emails to many GAA officials in Mayo and to the head of the GAA nationally labelled as ‘vicious and nasty’ by Burns.
