The picture has become clearer for the Mayo Ladies in the wake of the draw for the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship.

Liam McHale’s side have had a tough 2025 to date, but will be looking to steady the ship as they aim to wrestle the Connacht title from the iron grasp of Galway in the decider on Sunday, May 25, in Castlebar.

Now, following the confirmation of the groups for the All-Ireland series, the Connacht final in MacHale Park has taken on an added significance.

Should Mayo triumph over Galway and reverse the result of the group stage game between the sides, they will be in Group One, alongside Donegal and Tipperary.

Mayo and Donegal haven’t met in competitive fare since 2023, when Mayo sent the girls from the Hills tumbling to Division Two in O’Donnell Park, where both sides will ply their trade in 2026.

One year prior, Mayo and Tipperary faced off in Championship action in the opening round of the All-Ireland series, where Mayo enjoyed a ten-point win.

Should Mayo happen to lose next Sunday, then the prospects become somewhat more difficult.

Firstly, they’ll meet the winners of the Munster final between Kerry and Waterford. Should that go the way predictions are indicating, Kerry will be the side in Group Two.

The Kingdom recently caused headaches as they proved too strong for Mayo in the League, while the last time these sides met in a Championship battle came in 2023, where Kerry caused semi-final heartache in Semple Stadium as they emerged five-point victors.

Mayo are well aware of the damage that Waterford can inflict, given their heavy league defeat at the hands of the Déise to end this year's campaign.

Fellow Munster side, Cork, round off Group Two. In 2024, in a League clash, Mayo emerged victorious in Páirc Uí Chaoimh to all-but-ensure their top-flight survival.
