GALWAY comfortably won this dress-rehearsal for the upcoming Connacht Final. The women in Maroon easily disposed of the Mayo challenge in a largely one-sided encounter.

The home side were dominant in the first half and were four points clear at the end of the first quarter wwith Ailbhe Davoren, Kate Slevin, Shauna Hynes, and Eva Noone all pointing for Galway who never looked as if they were operating at full throttle.

A poor Mayo kick-out ended with Slevin finding the net for a goal and the gap was out to seven points. Mayo's first scores arrived when Sinéad Walsh kicked two points but Galway soon stopped the revival when rattling home 1-4 without reply.

The points arrived from Hannah Noone, Davoren, Kate Thompson, and Slevin, and Aisling Madden found the net as the home side cruised to a 2-9 to 0-5 lead at the interval.

The leaders seemed to take the foot off the pedal somewhat after the break and both sides added four points apiece to their tallies. Ciara Whyte kicked one for Mayo while Walsh added three more and they were matched by white flags from Hynes, Siobhán Divilly, Madden, and Andrea Trill.

The sides will meet again in the provincial final in two weeks time.

A full match report will be carried in Tuesday's Mayo News.
