All-Ireland U-16 Camogie C Shield Championship Final
Mayo 3-10 Louth 0-6
The Mayo U-16s brought an All-Ireland shield title across the Shannon over the weekend as they defeated Louth in the ‘C’ final in impressive fashion.
Having drawn with The Wee County in the group stages, Mayo produced an outstanding display to overcome a good Louth start and win the game with thirteen to spare.
Rachel People’s shot 1-5 while Saerlaith Dillon, one of four Mayo players who are also part of the county’s U-16 football team, produced a player-of-the-match display for the green and red.
Despite going three points down in the first ten minutes, Mayo recovered and took a 2-2 0-4 lead at half-time.
Mayo emerged for the second half and played their best camogie of the year.
Louth kept the pressure on, but Mayo’s second-half work was outstanding from 2 to 15.
Louth’s midfield and forwards burst forward numerous times, but Mayo’s defence refused to yield and only conceded two points in the second half.
Goals from Aoibhinn Conway, Saerlaith Dillon and Rachel Peoples embellished an excellent Mayo display, which produced another landmark moment for intercounty camogie in the county.
