The Mayo GAA Senior Football League has kicked off on Saturday evening under sun-splashed skies and the action in Clogher reflected the setting. A young Crossmolina team, with Mayo Minor players Kobe McDonald and Oisín Deane in the starting 15, snatched victory from the hands of defeat at the end of an interesting and intriguing contest.

In the beautiful evening sunshine that the county has been blessed with recently, Ballintubber proved a stern challenge for the Deel Rovers, who came to Clogher full with confidence after winning the All-Ireland Intermediate Championship last season.

The game ebbed and flowed, no team was able to build a considerable lead throughout the full sixty minutes. With seven minutes to play, the game was on a knife edge as the teams were level.

When the fat is in the fire, great players step forward and so it was Cillian O'Connor with two points, one of them scored off a free, that put Ballintubber two points ahead and on the edge of victory.

The last few minutes were frantic, and the relentless work rate from Crossmolina ensured they would get a last chance. The Deel Rovers had missed goal chances earlier on, but when the clock was nearing the full time mark, Dylan Flynn emerged in front of the Ballintubber goal and produced a composed finish, to seal the win for the boys from the Deel.
