An All-Ireland title is at last on its way to Claremorris.

With a gallant display hallmarked by skill, stamina, patience and perseverance, Mount Saint Michael captured the All-Ireland Senior B title for the first time since 2010.

The elements demanded discipline, efficiency and bravery, and the Mayo girls delivered in spades against a fine Eureka team who were left to rue nine wides over the course of 67 minutes.

The windy elements made for a slow-burning game of football where neither team could gain the upper hand.

Eureka enjoyed plenty of possession and used it well but fell behind when Ashling Cummins of Mount Saint Michael saw her point attempt spilled by Caragh Reilly Brady into the path of Caolinn Walsh, who finished a decisive goal after 12 minutes.

Mayo senior footballer Bree Hession was influential throughout the first half, kicking four points even as Mount Saint Michael struggled to take full advantage of the wind.

Leading 1-7 0-4 at the break thanks to standout displays from Bree Hession, Lily Hession, Isobel Phillips and Emma Higgins, Mount Saint Michael played cleverly against the wind in the second half.

Neither team shot the lights out, but the Mayo girls made better use of possession, scoring enough to protect their lead and defending courageously enough to ensure Eureka were held to five points.

The Kells school kicked several wides as Mount Saint Michael kept in front with scores from Bree Hession (3 frees) and Áine Lynn.

A full match report and reaction will be carried in Tuesday's Mayo News.
