Mayo manager Ray Larkin was a happy man after today's victory in Aughrim.
MAYO hurlers secured a place in next week's National League final after a hard-earned and deserved victory in Aughrim today. The Green and Red also secured promotion to Division 2 after their 4-15 to 2-15 win over Wicklow. Following the match, team manager Ray Larkin, told Mayo GAA that it was a great day for hurling in the county.
"We're delighted to have won and secured back-to-back promotions. There were parts of today's game when we played really well. We were seven points up after ten minutes of the second half and took the foot off the throttle a small bit. We made a few changes and swapped lads around and it worked, and we went on to win by six.
"We're really happy with where we are. This is a great bunch of lads. We came up here last night and knew how tough it would be here against Wicklow on their home patch. They had to win - a draw would have done us, but it's awful hard to play for a draw in hurling.
"We're really proud of the lads and it's great for Mayo hurling," the manager concluded.
Mayo will play London in next weekend's Division 3 league final.
A full match report and reaction will be carried in Tuesday's Mayo News.
