MAYO U-20 manager Peadar Gardiner has chosen five survivors from last year’s All-Ireland U-20 ‘B’ championship semi-final to start against Roscommon in the opening round of the Connacht championship.
Eoin McGreal, John MacMonagle, Paul Gilmore, Oisín Cronin, Cathal Keaveney and Niall Hurley have been named to start in tomorrow’s provincial championship game in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park.
All six players featured in last year’s All-Ireland ‘B’ championship semi-final when Mayo lost to Down with the last kick of the game.
A total of 14 different clubs are represented on the Mayo U-20s first named starting fifteen of 2025.
The Mayo U-20s are captained by John MacMonagle, who starts in the half-back line alongside vice-captain Hugh O’Loughlin.
Darragh Beirne and Rio Mortimer, who started for St Colman’s College in yesterday’s Hogan Cup final defeat, have been named on the bench.
The Mayo U-20s’ last meeting with Roscommon ended in a draw in Dr Hyde Park. Mayo are seeking to improve on a 2024 campaign in which they finished bottom of their round-robin group in Connacht.
Tomorrow’s game between the Mayo and Roscommon U-20s throws in at 5.30pm. Sligo’s Barry Judge will referee the game. The game will be broadcast live on Midwest Radio and streamed live on YouTube.
Mayo U-20 team to face Roscommon in the opening round of the Connacht U-20 Football Championship is as follows: Conor Meaney (Westport); Aaron Coggins (Crossmolina Deel Rovers), Paul Gilmore (Claremorris), Eoin McGreal (Garrymore); Hugh O’Loughlin (vice-captain) (Kilmaine), John MacMonagle (captain) (Castlebar Mitchels), Colm McHale (Moy Davitts); Oliver Armstrong (Knockmore), Seamus Howard (Béal an Mhuirthead); Cathal Keaveney (Parke Keelogues Crimlin), Niall Hurley (Claremorris), Oisín Cronin (Balla); Josh Carey (Kiltane), Luke Feeney (Ballina Stephenites), Tom Lydon (The Neale)
