ALL-Ireland Intermediate club champions Crossmolina Deel Rovers will receive a civic reception from Ballina Municipal District.

Local representative Cllr Michael Loftus formally proposed the awarding of a civic reception to the club in recognition of their achievements at the monthly meeting of Ballina Municipal District.

The north Mayo side returned to senior club football after beating Moy Davitts in a replayed county final before winning Connacht and All-Ireland titles.

Cllr Loftus, whose son Mikie captained the team, said it was a ‘great achievement for the team’ to have won the All-Ireland title.

“I think it’s the right thing to do, to acknowledge them locally,” added Cllr Loftus.

Crossmolina became the only team in history to win All-Ireland intermediate and senior titles when they beat Ballinderry of Derry in last month’s final.

Declan Turnbull, Head of Ballina Municipal District, said that a civic reception could be held in the locality once a date was agreed with the team.
