CONNACHT GAA POST PRIMARY D SENIOR FINAL
St Cuan’s College Castleblakeney 3-9
St Tiernan’s College Crossmolina 2-9
In Claremorris
A haul of 1-4 in the last ten minutes was not enough for St Tiernan’s College of Crossmolina to overturn an impressive St Cuan’s in this Connacht final.
The Mayo school’s failure to score in the second half until the 52nd haunted them as their Galway opponents took the silverware after a fine display.
Inspired by 2-4 from Caltra intermediate panellist Mikey Mulryan, St Cuan’s had star performers all over the field and played better than the three-point win suggested.
Indeed, had Adam Mills not found the net for St Tiernan’s seconds into injury time, the Galway lads would have seen this out convincingly.
The teams were level four times in an open and free-spirited game before St Cuan’s scored a goal through full-forward Daniel Keating.
The winners hit another 1-2 before the break, with Mikey Mulryan netting their second goal with a superb finish into the top corner.
A late three-pointer from Tony Carey left St Tiernan’s 1-5 2-6 down at half-time. However, the Mayo lads went even further behind when Mikey Mulryan added another goal just four minutes into the second half.
Another three points were enough for St Cuan’s to bring home a Connacht title with three points to spare.
A full report plus reaction from St Tiernan’s College manager, Séamus Kelly, will be carried in Tuesday’s Mayo News.
