Summerhill College, Sligo 1-9
BALLYHAUNIS
THE Aonghus Murphy Cup is staying in Mayo after a thrilling final ended in glorious victory for St Colman's this afternoon. The memorable clash was a thrilling encounter from start to finish between two excellent teams on an excellent surface in Ballyhaunis.
Colman's went into the game as underdogs following an earlier meeting between the teams ended in a solid win for Summerhill. However, St Colman's recovered after that defeat and were in rude form when Saturday's decider came around.

the Mayo boys were clearly the better team in the opening half on this occasion and deservedly led 2-5 to 0-5 at the interval. Darragh Beirne and Ciaran Treacy lashed home superb goals while Rio Mortimer, Nathan Gill, Stefan Petkovic and their colleagues rose to the occasion,
Summerhill were a different animal after the break and poured forward in search of scores. Full-Forward Aaron Lang was deadly whenever the ball came his way and the Sligo boys started to create numerous goal chances.
Adam Feeney seemed certain to find the net after 36 minutes but Evan Campbell pulled off a great save. Moments later Eamon O'Mahoney pulled another Summerhill chance across the face of the goal.
However, the goal they threatened arrived moments later when Callum Lynch slapped the ball to the net. A point followed from Lang and suddenly there was just a point between them, 2-6 to 1-8.
St Colman's were being asked serious questions and when heroes were called for they stepped forward in abundance. Young men in red grew in stature all over the pitch and with Beirne outstanding up front, they steadied themselves and hit for home.
Points arrived from Ronan Kelly, Ben Sheridan and Beirne to put four between them with time almost up.
Lang cut the gap to three at the start of four minutes of injury time and Summerhill poured forward looking for an equalising goal but Colman's refused to take a step back and when the final whistle sounded they were champions of Connacht once again.
