In Westport

Sacred Heart School Westport lost their All-Ireland semi-final to an extremely strong Derry side on Saturday afternoon.

The Westport side struggled to get a foothold in the game throughout the 60 minutes, largely due to the outstanding camogie played by the opposition.

With 15 seconds played, St Conor’s got their first point of the game through Jojo Darrag and didn’t look back from there.

By the 15-minute mark, Derry had created a 0-5 to 0-1 point lead, with Aoife Meaney scoring Sacred Heart’s only point. Led by full forward Jojo Darragh, who hit an impressive 2-5 in total, the Ulster champions kept the scoreboard ticking over.

Sacred Heart’s captain, Annie McGreevy gave her team a lifeline with 29 minutes played when her long-range effort found the back of the net. This left St Conor’s leading 0-10 to 1-01 at the break.

A big second half was needed from the home side, but the guests didn’t let them back into the game. St Conor’s tagged on three more points before Jojo Darragh raised the green flag for the first time in the 45th minute. Sacred Heart quickly responded with a three-pointer of their own through a Méabh Tunney free. However the Derry side had already done the hard work, and a second goal from Jojo Darragh secured them a spot in the All-Ireland final.
