Three Mayo players who caught our eye against Dublin

We run the rule over the performances of Sinéad Walsh, Ella Brennan and Erin Murray following Mayo’s Division 1 league defeat to All-Ireland champions Dublin

The Mayo ladies began their 2025 league campaign with a 2-7 1-7 defeat to Dublin yesterday. Here are three players who caught our eye during the game:

Sinéad Walsh

For a long time, Sinéad Walsh showed she had the potential to be the next Lisa Cafferky. In 2025, she has no choice but to be the next Lisa Cafferky!

On Saturday, the MacHale Rovers woman kicked all but two of Mayo’s points to finish with a bounty not dissimilar to the kind plundered by the Kilmovee Shamrocks woman in recent years.

Her classy finish for the goal was a reminder that she remains one of the most talented forwards in Mayo

Erin Murray

This woman just never stops.

If Mayo were on top in one area of the field on Saturday, it was at midfield. That was thanks to Murray and her partner Aoife Geraghty, who are arguably the most formidable midfield pairing in Connacht at the minute.

Murray was all over the place, making challenges, driving forward and bending the game to her will in whatever way she could without hogging all the glory.

No sign of her being dropped any time soon.

Ella Brennan

An impressive return for a player who has come back from not one but two cruciate injuries.

Never one for giving, the Charlestown woman, who made her Mayo senior debut way back in 2019, put in a solid shift against a tricky forward line and looks set to stay at cornerback for the rest of the year.

To Mayo’s credit, they didn’t concede a single score from play while she was sin-binned in the 52nd minute.
