Learn to pronounce that surname. We said it in 2022 when the then sixteen-year-old daughter of Polish immigrants told The Mayo News about her ‘dream’ to play senior football for Mayo after winning a Connacht intermediate title with Charlestown.

She’ll have a battle with another teenager for the Number 1 jersey, MacHale Rovers’ Charlie Benson, but there’s nothing to say Gawalkiewicz won’t get a run at some point in the coming weeks.

After many years in goal with Swinford FC, she signed for Athlone Town’s League of Ireland side. In 2024, she was the goalkeeping coach with the inaugural Mayo FC U-15 boys team.
