MAYO LGFA JUNIOR A CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
Aghamore 2-9 St Brigid’s 1-5
In MacHale Park
AGHAMORE LGFA have written a golden chapter in their short history by winning their first-ever county Junior A title this evening.
The lion-hearted East Mayo side were unbreakable in the second half where they held a good St Brigid’s team to just a single point.
Goals from Aoife Lilly and Siobhan Mooney were key as Keith Cassidy’s women won the first half 2-4 to 1-4 against a St Brigid’s side that goaled in the first minute, asked questions in attack and were uncompromising in defence.
Their captain Ava McDonnell got their three-pointer with a wonder strike before follow-ups from Alva Munnelly and Leah Maheady put the North Mayo women up 1-2 to no score.
Aghamore then got motoring with scores from the county woman Saoirse Delaney, who was excellent all throughout.
Fortunate goals followed from Aoife Lilly and Siobhán Mooney before a Saoirse Delaney point put them three up at the break.
They added a few more to their tally in a defensive second half where they almost held St Brigid’s completely scoreless.
Without firepower so badly needed to topple the red and white wall, St Brigid’s fell short and Aghamore took the silverware back to the hills of East Mayo.
