BREAFFY are through to the last four of Mayo Senior Football Championship after a hard-fought win over Westport.

Aidan O'Shea was to the fore yet again in any eye-catching display which saw him lock horns with his old Mayo team-mate, Lee Keegan, who had the unenviable task of subduing the Breaffy full-forward.

Breaffy were no one-man show today, however, and had to at their best all over the field in a contest that ebbed and flowed throughout.

In a game where so little separated the teams, the game's only goal was absolutely vital for Breaffy.

It came after the ball crossed the line after ricocheting off Matthew Ruane towards the end of the half to help Breaffy to a 1-5 0-7 lead at the break.

Westport took a one-point lead twice in the second half, but lost it each time in a game made more chaotic by the soggy playing conditions.

Matthew Ruane, who was impressive throughout, kicked the game's winning score in injury time before the equally impressive Kilkelly brought it back to a point with a free.

Aidan O'Shea won the resulting kick-out, the final whistle blew, and Breaffy went through to the quarter-finals.

A full report, plus reaction from Aidan O'Shea and Lee Keegan, will be carried in Tuesday's Mayo News.
