Mayo LGFA Intermediate Football Championship
Louisburgh 3-5 Claremorris 0-13
In Louisburgh
The goals made the difference as Louisburgh mastered elements to claim a hard fought championship semi-final win over a valiant Claremorris side.
Aided by a powerful crossfield Atlantic breeze, Claremorris were the dominant team in the first half.
With stellar defensive performances from Marina Cawley, Sile Hughes and Siomha McNulty and the influence of Mayo senior Alana Fitzpatrick and Minor star Bree Hession, the South Mayo girls took a six-point lead after even opening exchanges.
Hession led the way with five first-half points as Louisburgh's key players struggled to make inroads.
The girls from God's Pocket were redeemed when Tara Needham set Dee McNally up for a goal that put them back in contention in the 25th minute.
Claremorris quickly recovered and took a 0-10 1-2 half-time lead.
The wind made a big difference after the restart and Louisburgh levelled the game after 42 minutes when Tara Needham bagged her first goal.
Claremorris continued to press them to the pin of their collar, but Tara Needham did the mortal damage with a game-winning goal in the last ten minutes.
The Connacht junior club champions gave it their all in the dying moments and made it a one-point game thanks to scores from Laura Kelly and Marry Ann Ward.
However, time quickly ran out from the South Mayo girls, who were crestfallen as Louisburgh qualified for a first intermediate county final since 2022.
A full report will be carried in Tuesday's Mayo News.
