KILTIMAGH are facing yet another relegation play-off despite a spirited comeback that saw them come within a point of snatching a draw this afternoon.

In the end, a Castlebar Mitchels outfit starring Cian Walsh got through thanks to a late goal from subsitute Eoghan Hughes and will play intermediate football again next year after finishing third in Group 2.

Playing under a brilliant sunny Aghamore sky, Kiltimagh began in ideal fashion with a goal from Donavan Cosgrave.

However, it was Castlebar Mitchels that led at half-time thanks to a penalty from Castlebar Celtic star and Mayo News Super League Player of the Year Mark Cunningham.

Stephen Murphy's side looked home and hosed when Cian Walsh was quickest to react to Shane Cunningham’s effort hitting the crossbar to palm home.

However, the seven-point lead for his side was almost wiped out in an eight-minute blitz which saw Cian Gallagher hitting three (two from play and one free), Dylan Roache hitting two (one free), and Donovan Cosgrove pointing to reduce the arrears to a point.

A dream comeback was shattered when Cian Walsh broke free from the halfway line and almost goaled, but his shot was blocked and substitute Eoghan Hughes was in the right place to finish home to the net.

A full report plus reaction will be carried in Tuesday's Mayo News.
