Mayo GAA Chairman Séamus Tuohy has said that the Cairde Mhaigh Eo committee has been meeting since their chairperson, Maria Staunton, resigned her position
A committee tasked with fundraising for Mayo GAA has been without a chairperson since February, the monthly meeting of the county board has heard.
The Cairde Mhaigh Eo subcommittee has been without a chairperson since Maria Staunton stepped down in February.
Séamus Tuohy, Mayo GAA Chairman, said that the committee had been meeting since Staunton stepped down and said that a new chairperson was due to be appointed.
However, this has been disputed by one member of the committee, who told The Mayo News that the committee had not met since Staunton stepped down and that committee members were not informed of her leaving the committee.
“There was a colossal amount of work done by Maria which has all been abandoned,” they said.
Describing the matter as ‘very serious’, Ballycroy delegate Michael Gallagher said the committee was ‘hugely important’ due to the large amount of debt owed on the development of MacHale Park and the proposed development of a new Leadership Academy at Mulvey Park.
Tuohy acknowledged that the Cairde Mhaigh Eo chairperson had resigned but that the position ‘was being addressed’.
The Breaffy clubman also insisted that committee meetings had taken place when asked if any had taken place since Staunton stepped down.
