In Parke
CASTLEBAR Mitchels have got their league campaign off to winning ways after an all-action shoot-out against Parke.
Ethan Gibbons led the way for the Mitchels attack with seven points in a game where a strong finish scuppered a daring comeback from Parke.
The shackles were cast to the wind in an entertaining first half which saw the sides level on four occasions.
Mitchels led 0-8 0-6 at the break and looked far more threatening in front of goal against a Parke team with a number of teenagers and 42-year-old veteran Simon Cloherty among their starting team.
Barry Moran’s men were just beginning to pull away when Colm Lynch fired home a lovely goal before Dara Neary followed up with a green flag two minutes later in the 50th minute.
An exchange of scores saw the game levelled for a sixth and seventh time before Mitchels reeled off 1-5 to secure the win, with former Mayo footballer James Durcan landing their only goal towards the end.
There will be a full report plus reaction from Castlebar Mitchels manager Barry Moran in Tuesday’s Mayo News.
