THE Mayo Minor camogie team are in poll position to qualify for an All-Ireland semi-final after an easy win over Donegal in a blustery Adrian Freeman Memorial Park this afternoon.
Eight points from the excellent Castlebar Mitchels centre-forward Hannah Hauttman were the highlights of Mayo’s display on a day when the hosts were never seriously bothered.
Donegal were unable to take advantage of a howling breeze as Mayo played an efficient game into the gust.
With an experimental team lining out, Mayo made their mark early on by hitting 1-4 in the opening 20 minutes.
Has they not been denied on so many occasions by the camán of Donegal goalkeeper Cassie Lambe, Brendan Tunney’s Mayo team would have been much further ahead at half-time.
A goal from local girl Laoise Greally helped Mayo to 1-6 to 0-2 half-time lead, one which widened with the aid of the breeze throughout the second half.
Westport’s Rebecca Hastings added a second goal for Mayo as Donegal were held to just two points in the second half as the home side cruised to a second championship win of the year.
There will be a full report plus reaction carried in Tuesday’s print edition of The Mayo News.
