MAYO manager Kevin McStay has named five survivors from Mayo’s last championship game in the US to start against New York in the opening round of the Connacht Senior Football Championship.

Should the Mayo team line out as selected, Paddy Durcan, Fergal Boland, Aidan O’Shea, Stephen Coen and Matthew Ruane will be the only starting Mayo players who featured in the last meeting of Mayo and New York.

On that occasion, James Horan’s men came away from Gaelic Park with a 21-point win, with Boland (4 points), Durcan and Ruane (1 point each) all getting on the score sheet.

Ballaghaderreen defender David McBrien has been named line out a midfield alongside Matthew Ruane for Sunday’s game.

Bob Touhy will make his eleventh senior start for Mayo in the half-forward line alongside Jack Carney and Fergal Boland.

Veteran forward Cillian O’Connor has been named on the bench, which includes veteran goalkeeper Rob Hennelly.

Fenton Kelly and Conor Hunt – both who have yet to make their championship debuts – are also named on the bench.

The most notable absentee is former Mayo senior captain Diarmuid O'Connor, who previously said he was unlikely to feature in Mayo's first game in The Big Apple in five years.

Mayo are captained by Castlebar Mitchels footballer Paddy Durcan, who is due to make his 89th senior start for Mayo in all competitions on Sunday.

Aidan O’Shea will also make his 185th Mayo appearance in what will be his 85th championship game for the county, a new Mayo record equalling Kerry legend Colm Cooper on the national stage.
