THE Mayo senior football team have begun their journey to the United States.
A photo posted on Mayo GAA’s social media shows many of the 36-man panel and backroom team in Shannon Airport before their departure to New York, where they will face New York in the opening round of the Connacht Championship .
Speaking to the media last week, Mayo manager Kevin McStay said it was ‘great and proper’ that the entire squad travel to New York for the game.
Thousands of Mayo fans are expected to make the journey Stateside for the game, which sold our shortly after tickets went on sale.
It is Mayo and New York’s first championship meeting since 2019, when James Horan’s side easily accounted for the locals on a rainy afternoon.
The Mayo senior team are due to fly back to Ireland on Tuesday, April 9.
