FORMER Mayo GAA star Oisín Mullin is to chop his flowing locks to raise money for a respite centre for children with cancer.

The Geelong Cats football player announced on his Instagram that he will be cutting his hair for the first time in four years to raise money for Daisy Lodge in Cong.

The facility, currently under construction in the South Mayo village, will be only the second Daisy Lodge in Ireland and will provided respite for children with cancer and their families.

“I am starting this fundraiser in hopes of raising some awareness and funds for a very important and worthy cause,” Mullin wrote.

“Any donations big or small would be greatly appreciated. Fundraiser will be linked in bio along with additional information on the Daisy Lodge charity.”

The only Daisy Lodge facility in Ireland is based in Co Down and is operated by the Cancer Fund For Children charity.

Each year, Cancer Fund for Children supports over 1,500 children and young people and 500 families impacted by cancer with therapeutic short breaks at Daisy Lodge in Newcastle.

Last year, former Ireland rugby captain, Rory Best, walked 330 kilometres to Cong to fundraise for Daisy Lodge before performing the official sod-turning on the Cong facility.
