CONNACHT LGFA U16 CHAMPIONSHIP
There is an exciting season ahead for Mayo U16s after an impressive performance against neighbours, Galway, on Saturday afternoon.
There was a buzz around the ground on the glorious day in Garrymore, as the Mayo side played thrilling and direct football, working in tandem as if they have played together for years.
The first half opened with both teams scoring a goal within the first two minutes, Mayo’s through the lively Lauren McHale, and Galway’s through Laura Adair.
Both teams tightened up after that, and Mayo began to dominate, led by the likes of impressive midfielder, Aoife Meaney, and captain, Emma Higgins.
The teams went in at halftime at a score line of 2-4 to 1-4, in favour of the Mayo side.
Mayo then completely dominated the second half, scoring an impressive total of 3-8. Matters were only made worse for Galway when substitute, Ava Mullins, was shown a straight red card early in the second half.
The Mayo goals in the second half came from substitute Aine Lynn, and Westport teammates, Aoife Meaney and Katie Hughes.
Mayo will take on Leitrim in the next round, in two weeks time.
