Mayo Sinn Féin add Gerry Murray to General Election ticket

Charlestown-based councillor to run beside Rose Conway-Walsh for Sinn Féin

Sinn Féin’s Gerry Murray will ‘seriously consider’ run for the Dáil

Charlestown councillior Gerry Murray will run in the General Election for Sinn Féin

Mayo Sinn Féin will run two candidates in the upcoming General Election after the party selected Cllr Gerry Murray to run alongside sitting TD Rose Conway-Walsh.

Murray was the party's candidate in the 2007 General Election and comfortably retained his seat in the Swinford Local Electoral Area in June's local elections.

The Charlestown-based county councillor said he is honoured to be on the ticket” “To be selected by Sinn Féin to run in a General Election in this constituency really is an honour. I want to build on the incredible work already done by our sitting TD Rose Conway-Walsh. I think if we can double Sinn Féin’s Mayo representatives in Leinster House, that can only be a good thing for people across our county.”

Cllr Murray stated that he believes there is an appetite for a change of government amongst people in Mayo. “I think most people have had enough of Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil wasting taxpayers money on bike sheds, security huts, phone pouches and overspends on hospitals and modular homes, whilst hardworking people here in Mayo struggle to make ends meet.

“It is not fair and I thing that is something that needs to change as soon as possible. In Sinn Féin we are here to provide that change and offer a real alternative to this failed government.”

Murray’s party colleague TD Rose Conway-Walsh welcomed Gerry Murray’s candidacy.

“Gerry is a fantastic public representative. Time and time again, he has delivered for people in the Swinford and Charlestown areas. He would be a huge asset for the people of Mayo if elected alongside me as a TD.

“I think Gerry being added to the ticket here shows just how serious we are about creating a Sinn Féin led government. Between myself and Gerry, the people of Mayo have a Sinn Féin team that can really ensure their interests are front and centre after this election.

“A Sinn Féin led Government will stand up for ordinary people. We will make housing affordable, deliver €10 a day childcare, abolish USC for average workers, abolish the means test for the carers allowance, ensure access to a GP when you need it, and work to advance Irish Unity. On election day make your vote count. Vótail Sinn Féin,” she said.
