Independent Councillor Michael Kilcyone re-elected on first count

Independent councillor Michael Kilcoyne can celebrate an election victory: After the first count in the Castlebar LEA he received 2,405 first preference votes and has been re-elected to the Mayo County Council. Kilcoyne topped the results in the much anticipated first count for Castlebar as it took shortly after seven in the evening for the first result to arrive.

Also councillor Ger Deere (Fine Gael) got re-elected on the first count with 1,958 votes.

Count number 2 will consist of the distribution of Michael Kilcoyne's surplus which is 527 votes. It will be interesting to see, where the votes are going to.
