RIP: 'A beautiful lady so fond and proud of her Mayo roots' has passed away

Tributes have poured in following the passing of Mayo woman, Ellen Marie Maloney, who's funeral will be held in New York City.

Ellen passed peacefully at her home on February 16, 2025 and will be sadly missed by her loving husband Patrick, her brother John, sisters Nano, Bernie, Kathleen, Judy, sister-in-law, brothers-in law, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Ellen was born on June 17, 1944, in Caher, Shrule, Co. Mayo, Ireland and she maintained a deep connection to her homeland throughout her life while travelling and living abroad.

She cherished every opportunity to return to Ireland to visit family and friends and she was a passionate supporter of the Mayo football team.

She attended every game she could during the summer months when she visited Ireland.

Ellen also found joy in traveling by sea on her yearly cruises with her husband and their friends.

Ellen attended every function she was invited to, whether it was a baptism, communion, wedding, bridal shower, baby shower, you name it and as soon as that Irish music started, she was on the dance floor.

"She also was always the last one to leave the party!" according to RIP.ie.

"We are so sorry to hear of Ellen's passing, our thoughts and prayers are with you Pat at this most difficult time, sincere condolences to you and all Ellen's family and the Maloney family. May Ellen rest in peace," a tribute said.

"Bernie, my sympathy and condolence to you, Patrick, John, Nano, Kathleen, Judy, and all Ellen's extended family on her passing. She sounds like she was a woman who celebrated life to the fullest and I've no doubt but that she is now celebrating the afterlife to the full. God bless you all with his peace and love and grant eternal peace and rest to Ellen,' another tribute said.

Funeral Arrangements:

Family and friends will gather to honour Ellen’s life at a wake on February 21, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Gleason Funeral Home, located at 10-25 150th Street in Whitestone, New York.

A Funeral Mass will be held on February 22, 2025, at 9:30 AM at Mary's Nativity - St. Ann Parish, 46-02 Parsons Boulevard in Flushing, New York. Following the service, Ellen will be laid to rest at Mount St. Mary Cemetery in Flushing.
