Mayo Roads Policing Unit from An Garda Siochana have arrested a driver and charged him for dangerous driving
On a busy N5 in Charlestown on Saturday, a vehicle was detected travelling at 164km/h in a 100km/h zone.
The vehicle overtook a number of vehicles at high speed.
The driver faces a two-year driving disqualification. A fine of up to €5,000 or or up to six months in prison.
An Garda Siochana urge people: "As we prepare to launch our Annual Christmas Road Safety Campaign we remind drivers that: Speeding at this level puts everyone on the road at risk. Slow down. Drive safe. Arrive alive."
