'Gracious' and 'elegant' - heartfelt tributes for Mayo woman who passed away

The late Nancy Golding

Mayo woman Nancy Golding, who died recently in Castlebar Hospital, was formerly O’Dea from Gortnara, Claremorris.

Nancy and her late husband Mick resided for many years down in Achill before moving back to Balla a good many years ago.

They enjoyed their years in Achill where they made many life-long friends and the Golding family retain a special fondness for Achill to this day.

The Golding family is synonymous with Balla and Mick and Nancy had little bother in settling back into life in this region. Nancy immersed herself in the life of the area and Balla Golf Club was among those leading the tribute to her.

“Nancy held the office of President of the Club in 2016, a role she filled with great dignity and honour. She was a much loved and respected lady by everyone in the Club,” said a statement from the club.

Balla Active Age Group said Nancy was deeply involved in the Active Age and was chairperson for many years. “She was a wonderful organiser and her warm and welcoming manner will never be forgotten.”

Mary Jo Cannon from Belcarra commented that Nancy was a lovely, kind, stylish lady with a word for everyone. “I have lovely memories of her in Balla Golf Club where she took on the role of Lady President with great dedication and energy in 2016. She will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.”

Ted and Marion Gormally, Manulla, stated that Nancy was a wonderful lady, always so welcoming, charming, gracious, elegant and glamorous. “She adored going Stateside and adored all her grandchildren both here and in the US.

We have fond memories of Nancy over in the Golf Club, especially the year she was President and where she always looked so elegant with her blazer, meeting all members, Green Fees and others enquiries in such a confident and welcoming manner.”

Imelda Forde, Rathduff, Balla, said Nancy was a true and kind lady who was always willing to lend a hand whenever the need arose. “She loved her style and fashion and would always be ready to have the chat and she would light up any room.”

Reposing was at Balla Funeral Home and interment took place in Balla cemetery following Requiem Mass in St Cronan’s Church.
Nancy, who was predeceased by her husband Mick in 2015, her sister Maureen O’Dea-Filip (New York) and her brothers Tom (Killeenfarna, Claremorris) and Francis (Frank), Gortnara, will be sadly missed by family , Gina Gielty (Castlebar), Karen Vaughan (USA) and John Golding (USA), sons-in-law Michael and Donal, daughter-in-law Kate, her beloved grandchildren Rachel, Gerard, Jonathan, Cathal, Colmán, his wife Siobhán, Ava and Jake, her many nieces and nephews, brother-in-law Jimmy Golding (Balla), nephews, nieces, relatives and many friends.
