From Mayo to Milan: Tourism Ireland travel to Italy to promote the West

The Milanese will be swapping the Duomo di Milano for the Knock Basilica

Tourism Ireland, in association with Ireland West Airport Knock, have travelled to Milan in order to promote all the West has to offer in promotion of their direct flights from Milan Bergamo to Mayo.

As part of the initiative, a delegation of Mayo-based tourism companies, including Knock Shrine, Achill Tourism, and Mayo County Council, came together with 60 Italian tour operators.

The Italian delegation sampled high-quality Irish produce from Good Food Ireland, as well as learning about all the best in arts, entertainment, and scenery Mayo has to offer to the world.

Tourism Ireland’s manager in Italy, Marcella Encoline, expressed her enthusiasm on the visit.

“We were delighted to partner with Ireland West Airport Knock, Good Food Ireland, and our tourism industry partners to highlight ease of access from Milan Bergamo to Knock with Ryanair,” he stated, “as well as some of the many things to see and do along the beautiful Wild Atlantic Way.

“Our aim is to inspire potential holidaymakers to choose Ireland and sustainably support local economies and communities by driving bookings on flights.”

The event in Milan is the latest in a series of targeted international promotions designed to drive inbound tourism to the west of Ireland. Following its success, Tourism Ireland is set to host a similar event in Cologne, Germany, next month.

The upcoming showcase will shine a spotlight on the direct Ryanair flight from Cologne to Knock, continuing the momentum to attract European tourists to Ireland’s heartland.
