“YOU want heavy? Metallica give you heavy!”

So said Metallica front-man and rhythm guitarist James Hetfield at manys a gig. Well, if Mr Hetfield is anywhere around south Mayo in the next few days, he doesn’t even need to pick up a guitar to hear some good, fun, heavy music. All he, or anyone looking for a good time, need do is rock up to Claremorris Town Hall Theatre, where the two local secondary schools, Mount Saint Michael and St Colman’s College, are staging their latest collaboration, Rock of Ages.

Featuring the best hair metal toe-tappers and sing-along power ballads from the 1980s, Rock of Ages is high-flying, high-energy, hilarious and occasionally irreverent thrill ride that transports the audience back to Los Angeles, where the plot centres around the fight to stop German developers transforming their beloved Sunset Strip into a modern, ‘clean-living’ housing development.

Featuring no shortage of slapstick, hair spray and crunching guitar-driven rock and roll, Rock of Ages is a not-too-serious show that is seriously good fun.

Featuring iconic anthems such as ‘Cum On Feel The Noize’, ‘We Built This City’, ‘Pour Some Sugar On Me’ and ‘Don’t Stop Believing’, this jukebox extravaganza is rebellelious, rambunctious and real good fun from the first cymbal crash to the last guitar solo.

It ran on for 2,328 performances in Broadway, but there will be just three shows in Claremorris Town Hall Theatre.
You want heavy, then? Mount Saint Michael and St Colman’s College gives you heavy! This evening, tomorrow and Friday, every night, from 8pm. Doors open at 7pm. Tickets are available at https://townhall.ie/tickets/.
