Irish Rail have confirmed that a new passenger shelter will be installed at Manulla Junction in County Mayo before winter this year.

The decision has been welcomed by Senator Mark Duffy (Fine Gael), who had raised the issue.

Speaking following the confirmation at the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Senator Duffy said:

“I am delighted to confirm that, following consistent representations, Irish Rail have today committed to creating a passenger shelter at Manulla Junction before winter. I want to thank everyone who contacted me about this issue and pay particular tribute to Mary Considine of Irish Rail for her efforts and commitment.”

Duffy pointed out, as rail passenger numbers continue to grow, improvements like this would make rail travel more attractive and comfortable for commuters across Mayo.

The development is expected to benefit hundreds of daily users of the station.
