A popular Mayo music venue has been nominated for the prestigious IMRO Live Music Venue of the Year Award 2026

Following on from a landmark year in 2025 that saw the venue crowned Connacht Live Music Venue of the Year 2025. This recognition follows a hugely successful period for the venue, after it was honoured at last year’s awards ceremony in Dublin, standing alongside some of Ireland’s most iconic venues and events.

Steeped in history, the TF Royal Theatre’s journey dates back to the early 1950’s, evolving from humble beginnings into the state-of-the-art venue it is today.

From the opening of the Royal Ballroom in 1961, to the establishment of its concert theatre format in 1999, and the development of a 1,500-seater theatre in 2005, each chapter has shaped the foundation for today’s impressive 2,200-seater auditorium.

The Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) Live Music Venue of the Year Awards celebrate venues that set the highest standards in live music. Judged by over 20,000 IMRO members, venues are evaluated on ambience, sound, lighting, accessibility, diversity of programming, and overall contribution to the live music industry.

This year’s winners will be announced at the official awards ceremony in the Guinness Storehouse on the 21 st of April 2026.
Welcoming over 100,000 visitors annually across more than 140 events, the TF Royal Theatre has firmly established itself as a powerhouse of live entertainment in the west of Ireland. The venue continues to attract artists from all over the world to Castlebar, further enhancing its reputation as a premier destination for live performance.

Amazing acts over the past 12 months include: Michael McIntyre, Kyla Cobbler, Nigel Owens, Gearóid McCarthy, Imelda May, Block Rockin’ Beats, Picture This and Kingfishr. 

And there’s plenty more to come, with exciting upcoming performances from: Doireann Garrihy, Cat Laughs Comedy Festival, Christopher Cross, Christy Moore, Garron Noone, Marti Pellow and UB40 - to name just a few.

Together, these recent and upcoming performers - spanning internationally renowned stars and leading Irish talent - highlight the venue’s diverse, high-calibre and ever-evolving programme.

With a theatre capacity of over 2,000 seated and up to 3,500 across combined seated and standing configurations - complemented by the intimate venues of the Ruby Room and the Velvet Room - the TF Royal Theatre is proud to host a diverse programme of events, including live music, comedy, theatre, ballet, podcasts, and community gatherings.

Beyond entertainment, the TF Royal Theatre plays a vital role in supporting the local economy in Castlebar.
